Amateur Radio meets the Outdoors
What’s it all about?
Its about getting outdoors with Ham Radio and operating in protected areas such as National Nature Reserves and Sites of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI) among other protected areas. This is know as portable (/P) operation. There are many protected Flora and Fauna areas all over the world.
Hunters and Activators
Activators are amateur radio operators who visit the PFF (protected flora fauna) areas and set up a portable radio station. This is called an Activation. There are various criteria that need to met to earn recognition of activating an activation.
Hunters are amateur radio operators who seek contacts with the portable stations at the PFF’s. Again there are various criteria that need to be met to earn awards for being a hunter.
